Bloomberg Television New London Studios

dB Broadcast has delivered a flagship broadcast facility for Bloomberg, incorporating cutting edge design and a full-IP solution.

The broadcast facility is at Bloomberg Television’s new European HQ in London. The studios have gone live and feature cutting-edge technology in an IP-based solution that provides a flexible, dynamic platform with maximum versatility.

The new facility includes a central circular television studio in the heart of the newsroom, along with a number of alternative broadcast positions across the building, including one with a live backdrop of St Paul’s Cathedral. In addition to two fully featured Studio control rooms, the Master Control Room handles contributions from across the EMEA territory, in addition to controlling seven regional variants of the Bloomberg TV channel.

The central circular television studio is made up of programmable LED surfaces – including the floor, anchor desk and a series of large hanging LED panels – which together act as a single electronic canvas on which to feature graphical and moving content. The panels are automated to synchronise with video and can move independently or together to create flexible set elements that vary between segments and shows.

The project was driven by a vision to embrace the latest in IP technology now replacing more traditional SDI approaches across the industry. Bloomberg and dB Broadcast worked together to blend this IP-based solution with a global workflow. A major design feature of the new broadcast facility is the uncompressed end-to-end video-over-IP solution.

David Bird, Founder of dB Broadcast, commented: “The standards based design and implementation future proofs Bloomberg Television for current and next-generation formats, including UHD-1 and beyond. We have completed installations for all the major UK broadcasters and internationally, and this is by far the most technically advanced and agile studio facility we have seen. We are delighted to have been part of this flagship project.”
